Post-pandemic, the Hindi film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, has faced a big decline in box office revenue. Many big films have failed to perform well at the box office, while others have just shocked the entire industry. Even though last year, movies like Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and Animal became blockbusters, there are many films whose collections are not even enough to cover their budgets.
Here are the three reasons why Hindi films are not doing well at the box office:
1. Lack of originality
One main reason for the decline in box office performance of Hindi films is the lack of originality, as many filmmakers have comforted themselves with formulaic scripts and predictable narratives, resulting in a lack of interest among audiences.
2. Rise of Streaming Services
Since the OTT has come, audiences have become quite choosy to go watch a movie in a theater. The youth love to binge-watch something or other on streaming services, and they’re now accessible to cinemas and shows around the world.
3. Propaganda against Bollywood
A few new channels and social media like Twitter played a big role in showing the Hindi film industry as a drug mafia industry where everyone is either into sex or drugs. However, Gen Z is smart enough to understand such propaganda, and that’s what they showed when they supported Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and made it one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023.
