On Monday, Droupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of India at the Central Hall of Parliament in New Delhi followed by a 21-gun salute. The oath of the Highest Constitutional Post of the country is directed to President Murmu by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.
President Droupadi Murmu addressed the gathering at the Central Hall as the 15th President alongside the presence of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other dignitaries.
The President stated that she was honoured to take charge as India is completing 75 years of Independence. She also added that she was the first President to be born in Independent India. “Your faith in me has given me strength. I have got this responsibility at such an important time as it is India’s 75 year of Independence. I am also the first President to be born after India got its Independence,” said President Murmu, addressing the nation after being sworn in as the 15th President of India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the newly-elected President luck for her tenure and added that she gave a message of hope and compassion. “In her address after taking oath, President Droupadi Murmu Ji gave a message of hope and compassion. She emphasised on India’s accomplishments and presented a futuristic vision of the path ahead at a time when India is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” PM Modi tweeted.
