The body of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav has been kept for the last rites at the Saifai Mela Ground, where a lot of his supporters have gathered for his darshan.
The SP founder was in critical condition and on life-saving drugs for the last few days at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. On October 2, the leader was admitted to the ICU post his health worsened. The last rites will take place at his ancestral home in the village Saifai today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a few moments to share his memories of the giant political leader of Uttar Pradesh. The PM said that it is a “huge loss” for the country. Mulayam Singh and PM Modi were Chief Ministers the same time of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat respectively for a few years.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bagel and Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath are deputed to represent the Congress party at the funeral of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Chants of “Netaji Amar Rahe” echoed across Saifai as people from all over the state gathered to give last pay to their leader.
Shivpal Yadav, brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav, was seen comforting Akhilesh Yadav, putting his hand on his shoulder as the son broke down. “The cremation will be held at the family cremation site also called ‘Samadhi Sthal’ near the Sefai Mahotsav venue. It was here that Mulayam Singh’s brother Ratan Singh Yadav was also cremated,” Shivpal said.
