On Thursday, social media influencer Sapna Gill was arrested for allegedly assaulting cricketer Prithvi Shaw and causing damage to his car during a dispute about selfies. Gill, who has over 200,000 Instagram followers and is popular on other social media platforms such as Josh, Snapchat, and YouTube, was taken into police custody on Friday and held until February 20.
Originally from Chandigarh, Gill currently resides in Mumbai, where she often shares dance videos and images on her Instagram account, which has approximately 1,500 posts. Additionally, she has appeared in several Bhojpuri films alongside Nirahua, also known as Dinesh Lal Yadav, with her most recent film, ‘Mera Watan,’ being released in 2021.
After the altercation, a complaint was filed against Gill and seven other individuals by Prithvi Shaw’s friend, Ashish Yadav. The Oshiwara police subsequently registered a case against the accused under several Indian Penal Code sections, including unlawful assembly, rioting, extortion, and criminal intimidation. Gill, however, has claimed that she is being falsely accused.
This incident highlights the potential dangers and consequences of social media’s influence on individuals and their actions. It is important for individuals to use social media responsibly and consider the impact their actions may have on others.
