Notorious gangster Sukhdool Singh, alias Sukha, known for his affiliation with the Davinder Bambiha gang and his support for pro-Khalistani organizations, was shot dead in Winnipeg, Canada. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, is believed to be the result of an inter-gang rivalry within the criminal underworld.
Sukha had a history of criminal activities and was included in the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) list of wanted terrorists and gangsters hiding in Canada. The NIA had previously urged the Canadian government to provide information regarding his benami properties in the country.
The gangster, who had managed to escape to Canada in 2017 using a fake passport, had seven criminal cases registered against him in India. His close association with Canada-based gangster Arshdeep Dalla, a rival of Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, had made him a prominent figure in the criminal landscape.
This killing bears similarities to the earlier murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who fell victim to inter-gang warfare in Surrey on June 19. Nijjar was fatally shot multiple times, highlighting the dangerous turf wars among gangsters sheltering outside India.
The issue of Indian gangsters seeking refuge abroad has been a growing concern, with as many as 29 criminals from the Punjab region and beyond evading Indian law enforcement. Canada has been a preferred destination for these fugitives, with some leaving India on valid Indian passports, while others have used forged documents or exploited the Nepal route to escape.
As tensions rise between India and Canada over the handling of these criminals, the situation threatens to impact diplomatic relations between the two nations. The recent allegations of political assassination by Canada in the case of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) member Hardeep Singh Nijjar have further exacerbated the tensions.
The list of gangsters taking refuge abroad includes individuals in Canada, the United States, Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia, the UAE, Hong Kong, Italy-Portugal, Indonesia, and Germany. These fugitives have been involved in various criminal activities, including extortion, contract killings, and support for anti-India organizations.
Sukhdool Singh, also known as Sukha, had been a key player in orchestrating crimes in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan, primarily through his associates. His death marks a significant development in the ongoing battle against organized crime and extremism in the region.
