Bollywood actress Disha Patani and Chef Sanjeev Kapoor have been roped in as brand ambassadors for ‘Washington Apples’.
In 2001, India opened its market for the US apples that was the time when only four containers were shipped. Today, the US apples have a market share of approx. 16% in India’s imported apples.
US Ambassador to India, Kenneth I Juster said in a statement, “Export of the US apples is rising every year. Between March and July, apples are exported to India when domestic supplies in India are exhausted.”
There are about 30-odd varieties of US apples and only four of them (Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala and Fuji) are exported to India. Juster further added, “You all have many more varieties to try.”
Even a campaign ‘Washington Apples Kuchh Khaas Hai’ has also been launched to create awareness among Indian consumers about Washington Apple varieties. Patani and Kapoor, in a statement said that they strongly believe that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and it was an easy choice for them to endorse this fruit as they believe that “Washington Apples” are known for best quality.
