HELLO JOSH! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
My name is Josh Stevens I’m a music producer, songwriter, artist and music executive. My new single is called hello darling produced by Octave Music Records out of Shabuya Tokyo Japan.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSICAL STYLE? HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED MUCH OVER THE YEARS?
My musical style is definitely indie rock pop. Sometimes I venture into hip-hop drums and verse melody but for the most part my sound is cross the genre.
WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR ARTISTIC INSPIRATION?
I think most of my artistic inspiration comes from real life experiences. I find that if I’m going to spend my time writing and working on music I should do it with a purpose. Thus try not to waste any time or make records that would waste of the listeners time.
WHAT PEOPLE HAVE INFLUENCED YOUR CAREER?
Many many people have influence my career, From mentors like Warren G to musical colleagues like LMFAO to Music executives ranging from young to seasoned. I find myself liking to learn from as many people as possible.
WHAT’S YOUR PROCESS LIKE FOR MAKING MUSIC?
My writing process is a bit of a whirlwind as I like to write extremely fast with a defined conceptual idea in place. Then I like to record really fast. This process allows me not to second-guess a feeling or thought. I find if I think too hard about something I’ll change the initial feeling which cause losing the intent a little bit.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO GROW YOUR PERSONAL BRAND?
The easiest way I find to grow my personal brand consistently is to find a singular message I’m trying to convey for a release or content and circle everything around that message.
WHAT IS THAT ONE THING THAT YOU ALWAYS KEEP IN YOUR MIND WHILE PREPARING YOUR CONTENT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA?
Who am I trying to reach and why.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO A BUDDING ARTIST?
Try and do 3% more than you did the day prior. It’s not about climbing a mountain top every single day, it’s about putting 1 foot in front of the next until you look back and you realize the height that you are at.
Humble yourself that you don’t know everything. And don’t be afraid to reach out to an artist or music executive you may think is above or below you. Because in reality nobody is above or below you, it’s a business in the arts.
