The Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic are two of the most popular cars on the market today with long-standing rivals in the joint car. Both come with a range of safety features, technology, and convenience features, and each has its unique advantages, but how do you know which car is best for you?
First, it is always important to know what is important to you when you are looking for the right car. You need to make sure that any car you choose, fits your budget and needs.

- Better Interior, Space & Comfort: The Honda Civic won over Toyota Corolla with interior design, space, and luxury. Honda has created beautiful interiors that offer tons of space and comfort for passengers. While the Toyota Corolla offers ample space for five passengers, the rear seat space is relatively small compared to the Civic, and there are plenty of solid plastics around the interior. Additionally, the interior of the Corolla can be slightly noisy at high-speed speeds while the Honda Civic offers more refinement inside.
- Better Safety equipment and Ratings: Both the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are packed in garages with safety features as usual. That means you don’t have to add packages or upgrade to get the best security equipment. Although both vehicles offer a level of safety, in our opinion, the Toyota Corolla is slightly better than the Honda Civic in the safety department.
Both vehicles come with their standard safety equipment.
The Honda Civic comes with Honda Sensing which includes functions such as:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Route Assistance
- Traffic departure warning
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic high beams
Toyota Corolla comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. This includes features such as:
- Lane Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection
- Full-Speed Dynamic Cruise Control
In our opinion, the Honda adaptive cruise system is a little better than the Toyota system because it is a bit smoother, although Toyota’s system allows you to set it at a wider speed.
The new Corolla can also read road signs and help drivers know the speed limits when marking them. Finally, the Civic has slightly more collision warnings, while the Corolla’s are less annoying.
- Better Technology: When it comes to technology, the Honda Civic beats the Toyota Corolla for several reasons. For one thing, the Honda Civic comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while the Toyota Corolla comes with Apple CarPlay only. The Toyota Corolla has Wi-Fi and Amazon Alexa, however, while the Honda Civic does not. One thing to note is that Honda has upgraded the infotainment system to include a volume knob making the system much easier to use. Both cars have a lot of USB ports and Bluetooth power, so if you choose a Civic or Corolla, you’ll be able to pair (and charge) your smartphone. In both vehicles, the infotainment system is easy to use and accurate. Whether you choose the Corolla or the Civic, you will be happy with the technology available in both.
- Better to Drive: In general, the Honda Civic is better to drive than the Toyota Corolla. Despite its status, the Honda Civic offers more power and torque than the Toyota Corolla. The Honda Civic also offers many more engine options than the Toyota Corolla, so it can almost match your driving style. We prefer the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine over the 2.0-litre engine because it is very peppier and fun to drive. You can also choose from a wide variety of body styles when travelling with a Honda Civic. The Civic feels connected and reversed on the road and the Toyota Corolla still feels less powerful and its steering is lighter than the Honda Civic.
Which Car should You Buy?
Both cars come with a lot of features. This healthy competition has kept the prices reasonable and value for money high.
If you choose between the Honda Civic compared to the Toyota Corolla, we recommend the New Honda Civic. Both Hondas and Toyota tend to hold their price over time, but Honda offers slightly better driving experience, tons of technical and safety features, and a very reasonable sedan price.
