A jack of all trades when it comes down to the entertainment industry, Corley White has made for himself growing through the ranks. A musician himself, he has worked with top music stars as a promoter and is coming out with an independent movie. Also known as Yung Curl, the story of this unique individual is nothing less than an inspiration. Let’s hear his story in his own words.
TELL US, MR. YUNG, HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY IN THE INDUSTRY BEGIN?
To tell you about the beginning, it all started in my childhood. Music was the only thing that I could connect with, and it became my solace, my passion, and, as it turns out, my profession too. Like everyone, it wasn’t smooth sailing for me as well. There have been many ups and downs in my life. But in the end, the only thing that remained constant for me was music.
AFTER BEING A MUSICIAN YOURSELF, HOW DID THE PROMOTIONS SIDE OF IT WORK OUT FOR YOU?
When I switched from being a musician myself, I went to promotions. There, I got a chance to meet many big names that ultimately built an excellent network for me. I had steady gigs, and the work was coming in. I was working with people like Wooh da Kid, Ice T, and Memphis Black. There have been so many people I have worked with now that counting them on my fingertips is no longer possible.
IF MUSIC WAS GOING SO WELL, WHY AN INDEPENDENT MOVIE NOW?
To be honest, I had no plans of making a movie. But as it happens, I just went with the flow and accepted whatever life brought me. One day, I woke up, and I was like, let’s make an independent movie. And to think of it, this was my most significant break. I got a chance to do so many new things on my own. I was the producer, writer, and actor as well. Personally, I believe one should learn and grow with each possibility. You might not want how it will help you, but one day, you’ll be able to connect all the days, and everything will make sense.
HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE OF MAKING THE MOVIE?
It was great. I didn’t only get a chance to learn and grow. I got an opportunity to work with some great artists like Justina Valentine, Shiggy, Fat boy SSE, Bill Collector, and Atown. The whole experience was fun, challenging, nourishing, and helped me grow. If given a chance to do it all over again, I’ll happily take it.
But you know, it wasn’t easy getting here. There were many hiccups that could have jeopardized my entire plan. For example, my flight got delayed on the day of filming, making me look for alternate travel options, etc. But, in the end, everything turned out to be okay, and I cannot be happier than this.
NOW TO THE BIG THING, WHEN AND WHERE IS THE MOVIE COMING OUT?
The movie is coming out on Halloween this year. It’ll be launched on the Get Lost Website. You can go to my Instagram profile and check out all the details. I really hope you all enjoy it.
WE KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE; YOU ARE ALWAYS READY FOR THE NEXT BIG THING AND MUST HAVE SOMETHING IN THE PIPELINE. TELL US, WHAT’S NEXT?
Well, I certainly have no plans for more movies for now. But we do have a huge PPV celebrity boxing event lined up in Miami on 2nd October where you’ll see some big names dualling to win.
