The highly anticipated Eid weekend releases, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s action-thriller Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s sports-drama Maidaan, failed to bring the audience into the theaters as they collected ordinary collections.
“Despite glowing word of mouth and an *extended* 4-day [+ Wed previews] weekend, #Maidaan collects a low total… Urban centres perform better, but biz should’ve multiplied / jumped on Fri [second day of #Eid] and of course, Sat – Sun. Wed previews + Thu [#Eid] 7.25 cr, Fri 2.80 cr, Sat 5.65 cr, Sun 6.52 cr. Total: ₹ 22.22 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice The silver lining is tremendous appreciation and lack of major releases in the coming weeks, which should help #Maidaan stay on crease… The real test begins today: the make-or-break Monday,” film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
On the other hand, the collection of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was disappointing as well. The film journalist at Pinkvilla, Himesh Mankad, tweeted that “#BadeMiyanChoteMiyan collects approx. Rs 40 crore in 4 days. #AkshayKumar & #TigerShroff film scores low numbers in its extended opening weekend! Thursday: Rs 15.00 crore Friday: Rs 7.50 crore Saturday: Rs 8.25 crore Sunday: Rs 9.00 crore (Est) Total: Rs 39.75 crore”.
Despite the star power of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, the audiences failed to connect with the film, while Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, which was touted as an inspirational sports drama, failed to bring the public into the cinema halls.
