Bose plans to close its all retail stores in Australia, Japan, Europe and North America. The brand announced the decision earlier today and pointed to the reality that its speakers, headphones and other products “are bought mainly from e-commerce websites” as the reasoning. Today, Bose sells its products at Best Buy, Amazon, Target, Apple Stores, third-party retailers, and on Bose’s website. According to Bose’s full statement to The Verge.
Bose Vice President of Global Sales Colette Burke said. “Originally, our retail stores gave people a way to experience, test, and talk to us about multi-component, CD and DVD-based home entertainment systems,”
“At the time, it was a radical idea, but we focused on what our customers needed, and where they needed it — and we’re doing the same thing now.”
Burke continued by saying it was a difficult decision that impacts the company’s store teams.
Bose opened its first retail store in 1993 and currently has stores in many shopping centers and the remaining malls scattered across the US and all around the world. Bose will shut approx 119 stores in total in Australia, Japan, Europe and North America. But the stores will remain open in other parts of the world which includes approx 130 stores located in India, Greater China, UAE, Southeast Asia and South Korea.
