On Thursday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi joins her son Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Karnataka. The president participated in a public event after a long time because of her health issues. Sonia Gandhi walked beside her son and other party leaders for a few kilometres in the Mandya district of Karnataka.
She also visited the Bheemanakolli Temple in Bhegur village a day ago to offer Dussehra prayers. For the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, local women MLAs Anjali Nimbalkar, Roopakala and Lakshmi Hebbalkar also joined president Gandhi.
The Congress President had gone abroad for a medical check-up when the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ initiated on September 7. Her son Rahul Gandhi started the march from the southern tip of India, Kanyakumari.
In the coming days, Sonia Gandhi will again join the yatra; however, it isn’t certain if she will join fully or for a brief period. “After Vijayadashami, there will be Vijaya in Karnataka. We are proud that Sonia Gandhi has come to walk on the streets of Karnataka. We are coming to power in the state, and BJP is on the way to shutting its shop,” said Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar.
Led by Rahul Gandhi, ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ will cover as many as 12 states in its 3,500-km long march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. The Congress Party says that it wants to fight against the divisive politics of the BJP-led Modi government.
