As the political landscape in Rajasthan undergoes a transformation with the BJP poised to form the next government, one intriguing name has emerged as a potential leader – Princess Diya Kumari, a scion of the erstwhile Jaipur royal family. The BJP, having secured a commanding lead with 112 seats in the 199-seat assembly, has yet to announce its chief ministerial candidate. Princess Diya Kumari is among the prominent contenders for the position.
Hailing from the illustrious lineage of Man Singh II, the last ruling maharaja of Jaipur, Princess Diya Kumari brings a unique blend of regal heritage and relatability to the political arena. Describing herself as a “Daughter of Jaipur” and the “princess who walks on the streets,” she has successfully struck a chord with the people of Rajasthan.
Since joining the BJP in 2013, Princess Diya Kumari has maintained and enhanced her political standing. Winning both elections she contested, she became an elected Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Sawai Madhopur constituency in 2013. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she was elected as an MP from Rajsamand with one of the largest victory margins of 5.51 lakh votes.
Beyond her royal lineage, the 52-year-old politician has grown in stature by championing crucial issues such as environmental conservation, education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. Her appointment as a member of the National Tiger Conservation Authority in 2019 reflects her commitment to environmental causes.
As Princess Diya Kumari contests once again, this time from Jaipur’s Vidhyanagar East, she emerges as a formidable option for the chief ministerial position, alongside senior BJP leader Vasundhara Raje. Her appeal to voters is grounded in the belief that the public seeks a change from what she deems a “corrupt” Congress government, with a desire for a governance model that prioritizes women’s security, youth employment, and agricultural well-being.
Amidst victory chants from her supporters, Princess Diya Kumari exudes confidence in the BJP’s commitment to serving the people. When asked about the possibility of becoming the chief minister, she deflects the question, emphasizing that such decisions lie within the purview of the BJP high command.
The unfolding political scenario in Rajasthan holds the promise of a leader who seamlessly blends tradition with contemporary concerns, and Princess Diya Kumari stands at the forefront, ready to potentially assume the mantle of leadership in the state. As the political narrative evolves, all eyes are on the BJP high command to determine the next course of leadership in the royal land of Rajasthan.
