Glasgow born DJ and selector La La is returning to some of Scotland’s most iconic clubs in her upcoming 2024 Scottish tour. The tour this November will visit the trio of Subclub, Glasgow, The Liquid Room, Edinburgh and The Tunnels, Aberdeen – each holding their own rich history and have become something of a second home for many of Scotland’s dance music fans.
From the heart of Glasgow to the world’s most iconic stages, La La has solidified her position as a luminary in the electronic dance music scene and a prominent fixture at some of the world’s most exciting parties. After almost a decade of learning her craft and appreciation of club culture within Scotland including her six-year long residency at FLY, a weekly Sunday club night at the infamous Sub Club, La La hit the ground running on the international circuit in 2019, regularly playing at world-renowned clubs and festivals, before launching a family of record labels.
Fans of La La can’t have failed to notice the enormous hand painted mural at Box Hub in Glasgow as part of her Adidas Originals campaign and while the project has been rolled across the billboards and shop windows from Paris to Barcelona, seeing it live across her home city of Glasgow was the real pinch me moment for her.
Speaking of her love and pride of Scotland.
“There is a special moment when travelling where people assume you’re from somewhere, usually England I’ll be honest and you get to jump in with ‘I’m actually Scottish’ – I know I’m not alone in this I see my friends and peers from Scotland do it all the time. The pride of that moment makes me laugh, because it’s something we all share. For a long time I’ve been really staunch on not changing my language and the way I speak to accommodate others, especially in London. I see it as a chance to teach people, an education on patter as it were. At almost every gig I play there is someone there proudly waving a Scotland flag and let me tell you nothing puts a smile on my face quite like that.” La La
La La has never been shy of shouting of her deeply rooted ties to her native Scotland – with her independent record label Brand New Records proudly displaying a unicorn breaking free from its chains. Brand New Records exclusively releases music from Scottish or Scottish based artists focusing on local talent development and the artists of tomorrow, while her second label Sound As Records releases music from artists globally – many she has connected with while travelling around the world on tour.
“I don’t think a lot of people realise our national animal is a unicorn, or why that is. I remember hearing the story growing up about why Scotland’s unicorn is draped in chains and knowing I’d love to use that as artwork one day. The lore and history of Scotland is visual and visceral. I really enjoy weaving it into my own work. I have two labels, Brand New and Sound As, I wanted to separate them to ensure that I had a label devoted completely to releasing and supporting Scottish talent. We have so much of it after all – I’m really proud I’ve been able to champion that” La La
La La’s rise from breakthrough to prominence is a story of unwavering dedication and a passion for electronic music. Over the past decade, she has evolved from a local Glasgow DJ to a global sensation, captivating audiences at venues such as Fabric London, Circoloco Ibiza, Lost Sundays Sydney, and Awakenings. Her influence grew through her weekly radio shows on Rinse FM, and memorable broadcasts on Boiler Room and Mixmag Lab, which all lead to a prestigious BBC Radio 1 residency in September 2023.
Her production debut last year, ‘Give Yourself A Try’ spanning across jackin house, percussive club tools and oddball techno plus its wave of two remix releases that followed highlights La La’s significant impact on the dance music scene and her unparalleled talent in curating and collaborating. La La’s ability to call upon her extensive network of artists was a testament to her deep connections and the respect she has garnered in the industry; each remix reflected the trust and camaraderie that defines her relationship with fellow artists.
This release stood as a milestone, a celebration of artistic confidence and love of a community united by a shared love for electronic dance music.
La La is also riding the wave of two recent remix releases in August. The first being her remix of Borai & Denham Audio’s ‘Make Me’, a track she made go viral during her MixMag Lab session in 2022. Released on the second anniversary of that MixMag live stream, it represents her first time working with record label giants Sony on a release. Her second remix released in August was of Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall’s debut solo single ‘Angel of my Dreams’. The remix joined names such as Blessed Madonna, Jax Jones & Scooter. La La’s reputation as a producer and remixer is on an ever-increasing rise, with new music planned for release very soon.
