Hollywood hunk and leading man Enzo Zelocchi is never afraid to flex his muscles for his fans and followers, regularly showcasing his phenomenal physique in front of the movie camera and on social media. But what some fans may not realize is that this multi-faceted creative is also more than capable of flexing more metaphorical muscles too, demonstrating just as much talent behind the scenes as he does on the big screen!
Serving as a perfect example, news landed this week that Zelocchi is set to serve as executive producer for Anthony Hopkins’ next major movie project. The feature in question is called Freud’s Last Session and will see Hopkins take on the notable role of the iconic founding father of psychoanalysis himself, Sigmund Freud.
What You Need to Know About Freud’s Last Session
Directed by Matt Brown, Freud’s Last Session will soon take us on a journey into the mind of Freud as we watch him engage in an imagined debate with renowned “The Chronicles of Narnia” author C.S. Lewis about philosophy, religion, and the ultimate existence of a higher power.
Providing yet more interest for viewers, this multi-layered film will also tackle the complexities of sexual orientation and relationship taboos in the early 20th century, exploring Freud’s relationship with his lesbian daughter Anna Freud, played by Liv Lisa Fries, and the unconventional romance that Lewis shared with his best friend’s mother.
Brown, Hopkins, Fries, and Zelocchi are joined by other exciting names attached to the project, including Emmy nominee Matthew Goode, his The Crown co-star Jodi Balfour, cinematographer Ben Smithard, Academy Award-winning production designer Luciana Arrighi, BAFTA award-winning make-up designer Morna Ferguson, editor Paul Tothill, and music composer Coby Brown.
With the impressive weight of this project already made clear by both its star-studded cast and crew and its fascinating storyline, it comes as no surprise that the movie has already been tipped by Variety as a likely contender for the 2024 Oscars.
For sure, an Academy Award win for this feature would be a welcome addition for Hopkins, who already has two golden statues on the shelf at home, and Zelocchi, who has amassed almost 300 awards over his career so far, but is yet to receive a nod at the Oscars.
What else is there to know about Freud’s Last Session at this time? Well, we can confirm that even though a release date has not been confirmed, distribution rights for the movie have already been claimed.
Sony Classics have stepped up to ensure this exciting movie reaches its eagerly awaiting audience, while Deadline reports that Westend Films and CAA Media Finance have been busily negotiating distribution deals on behalf of Hopkins fans in Australia, Italy, Portugal, Israel, and Greece, who will all get their chance to see Freud brought to life on the big screen.
