The Kaithal district police and cyber team are investigating a case of a fake Instagram account created in the name of Superintendent of Police (SP) Maqsood Ahmed. The account used 12 photos from the SP’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts to create the fake ID. Some requests for money were also made to some social media friends of the SP from this fake ID.
The personal assistant of the SP, Pradeep Nain, filed a complaint on Monday after learning that an unknown user had created a fake Instagram ID on the name of SP Maqsood Ahmed IPS by using his photos. The user also demanded money from people via UPI payment mode.
This is the second incident reported in the district in the past one and half month. Earlier, the police arrested three minor youths for taking ₹25,000 from a friend of Kalayat DSP Sajjan Singh using his photo on a WhatsApp number.
The police have registered an FIR under section 66 C of the IT Act and section 419 of the IPC. The SP himself has informed the cyber cell about the fake Instagram ID. The police are urging the public to be cautious of such fraudulent activities and to report any suspicious online activity.
