HELLO JAKE LATIMORE MILLER, WELCOME TO BLACKBIRDNEWS! HOW DO YOU COME UP WITH IDEAS FOR YOUR VIDEOS?
It usually starts with inspiration. I draw inspiration from everything that’s going on around me. I believe that feeling inspired is essential when creating any form of content. Once I’m inspired, I start to develop a vision in my mind and build upon it to come up with unique ideas. I try to find concepts that excite me, and then I work on creating an entire project around that idea.
YOUR USE OF SYMBOLISM TO UNPACK THE HARSH REALITIES OF SOCIETY HAS GARNERED SIGNIFICANT ATTENTION AND PRAISE. CAN YOU ELABORATE ON YOUR APPROACH?
Thank you, I really appreciate that. It’s a great question. I believe that films have the power to convey powerful messages, but it’s a delicate balance between creating something that resonates with audiences and making it too complex to understand. My films can be challenging at times, and viewers may need to watch them multiple times to grasp the underlying themes and messages.
For example, in my latest video, “Wrong Turn,” there’s a scene where a driver encounters a strange man on the road, who turns out to be an alien that ends up killing the driver. Some viewers in the comments suggested that the driver should have run over the stranger when he first saw him. But from another perspective, by choosing not to harm the stranger, the driver demonstrated a willingness to recognize his humanity and respond with kindness and respect, even in a tense situation.
This kind of moral courage is something I try to explore in my films – the willingness to act on our convictions, even in the face of risk, opposition, or uncertainty. It’s about standing up for what we believe is right and taking responsibility for our actions, even when it’s unpopular or difficult. These qualities are crucial for building relationships of trust, mutual respect, and solidarity, which are necessary for navigating the challenges of our society. So I aim to engage my audience in thought-provoking conversations and encourage them to consider different perspectives and choices.
COULD YOU EXPLAIN THE MOTIVATION BEHIND INCORPORATING A PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH IN YOUR STORYTELLING?
I understand that the human mind is complex and fascinating, which is why I create content that are both mesmerizing and thought-provoking. My goal is to engage my audience on an intellectual level and produce films that leave them wanting more, with their minds blown by what they’ve just seen.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR READERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN STARTING THEIR OWN YOUTUBE CHANNELS?
My biggest advice for young creators and anyone chasing their dreams is to stay true to yourself, have faith in your abilities, and believe in yourself before anyone else can. Remember, your dreams are worth fighting for! Not everyone will see your vision and that’s okay. But don’t let that discourage you. You’ve gotta be your own biggest cheerleader and root for yourself. We all value the opinions of our friends and family, but when it comes to your dreams, it’s time to protect them fiercely. Hold onto your vision, have faith in yourself, and don’t give up. Once you start making progress, your loved ones will see your talent and start to believe in you too. So go out there and show ’em what you’re made of!
