Varro Vivyds is a Santa Cruz native who creatively captures her emotions and writes them in such a way where the audience will experience them too. Varro’s melody work will have her songs playing in your head during the day and keeping you up at night. She has the ability to stay fresh in a world where the listener feels they’ve heard it all before.
WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR DEBUT SONG?
Same Routine and it’s all about quarantine. Every day I would wake up and I’d go outside and sit in the same chair, drink my tea and do absolutely nothing. My sleep schedule was completely turned around and I was just bored out of my mind.
This song is of the lofi/bedroom pop genre, so it definitely has that grittiness to it. I’m calling it my soft launch, because I went with that under produced route to really give it that “I wrote this at home” vibe that flows with the story. It’s just a really funny and relatable song. The lyrics should give you a good chuckle.
And fun fact, the chair that I’m sitting on in the cover art, is the actual chair that the song was written in and was sung about in the song ha ha.
And if that was confusing, listen to the song and look at the photo and then you’ll understand ;p
SO YOU WRITE YOUR OWN SONGS? WHAT’S THAT PROCESS LIKE?
Yes, I write all of my own songs. It’s quite chaotic if I’m going to be honest. I mostly write to pre-produced beats. So what I do is I find a beat that makes me feel something, anything. I listen and I have my voice recorder next to me and I start mumbling and humming random words and sounds until I find a melody that I want to try to work with. If you were to look through my phone you would see I have 1000+ voice memos and that’s why ha ha..
Sometimes I get lucky and the song is written in a couple hours. Other times I’ll have to put the song away for a week and come back to it. I definitely never force myself into a song because it doesn’t ever turn out the way I want to.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE AS AN ARTIST?
I want to help heal somebody. And not in the selfish “ I want people to like me so I should say something I think they WANT to hear” kind of way but in the “I’ve been broken before too” kind of way. I have suffered with being bipolar and having depression since I was young. I know what it’s like to feel lost and lonely and music has saved my life on more than one occasion. I want to help people feel. And feel anything.
Of course I want people to be able to feel happiness from my songs, but sometimes you become so numb you don’t feel anything at all. So if a numb person is able to feel the emotion of sadness, I’d say progress.
WHAT WAS A PIVOTAL MOMENT IN YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY?
I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with my love for music over the years. Throughout junior high and high school, I was extremely active with playing my guitar and writing music, and when I went away to college I fell into some pretty low spots . I’m pretty open about my past addiction, and I have recently celebrated 4 1/2 years clean. But during that time, I had lost all desire and passion for music. It hasn’t been until a couple years ago that I re-fell in love and wanted to share my experiences with others.
IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE, DO YOU PREFER SINGING THE SONGS, OR WRITING THEM?
I LOVE to sing don’t get me wrong, but my true passion comes with writing music. There is just something about finding the melody in your soul, filling it with words and then watching it come to life.
My goal is to break into the industry as a songwriter. Sooooo writing ha
WHAT SHOULD WE BE LOOKING FORWARD TO FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?
Awesome things will be happening all of next year. Starting in January, every 3 to 4 weeks I will be releasing a new song. In September is the plan to release the EP, which will be 5 to 6 songs.
I’m really looking forward to the EP because it’s going to give you all the Melanie Martinez and Billie Eilish vibes. Definitely more in the spooky end of things
WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO YOUR FANS?
I could use this question to make it all about my music, but I think with everything that people are going through, I’d like to take this section focus on mental health. I want my fans to know that they don’t have to be alone even though we need to be physically distant. There are many resources out there to get the mental health help that you need. Depression can be deadly if not not taken seriously.
And if you’re not going through depression, check in on your love ones. You never know what somebody might be going through and we really need to keep each other as close as we can.
