Rolondo Rich is emerging as one of South Central LA’s most promising underground hip-hop artists. With the release of his most recent album, Rich Dreams, he is sharing his soul, his vision, and his story in addition to his music. In a tell all interview, Rolondo shed light on his artistic career and future plans as a rising star.
Hello Rolondo Rich, welcome to News Blackbird! Your album Rich Dreams has been making waves. What inspired this project?
Rich Dreams is a reflection of my journey rather than merely an album. More than money is at stake; what matters is following your passion, accepting the challenges, and remaining loyal to who you are. Whether it’s about ambition, survival, or the unvarnished reality of growing up in South Central LA, each song tells a narrative. I wanted this record to speak to everyone pursuing their aspirations, not just those in my hometown.
Critics are calling Rich Dreams an anthem of ambition. What do you hope listeners take away from it?
People should feel empowered, in my opinion. It all depends on how you handle the challenges life presents. Songs like “All Around the World” and “Break Bread” highlight their tenacity. The lesson is the same whether you’re working in the streets or moving up the corporate ladder: never give up on your goals.
You’ve published some amazing images in addition to the music. What served as the inspiration for the “All Around the World” and “Break Bread” music videos?
I consider music videos to be a continuation of my narrative. I wanted to portray the rough, unvarnished reality of South Central in “Break Bread.” I wanted to juxtapose it with global ambition in “All Around the World,” the notion that one may rise from the streets and still have lofty aspirations. These videos are meant to evoke feelings rather than only be viewed. They are a part of the story.
You’ve also been dropping singles like WE ON and The Hood Premiere. How do these fit into your larger vision as an artist?
These tracks are about momentum. WE ON is a statement—about perseverance, about pushing forward no matter what. And The Hood Premiere? That’s a shout-out to where I come from, but also a reminder that your starting point doesn’t have to define your finish line. These singles build on the themes of Rich Dreams while giving fans something fresh.
You’ve received recognition for your diligence, which includes publishing six music videos simultaneously. How do you stay creative at that level?
Discipline and devotion are key. I’m always writing, coming up with ideas, and working with others. I wanted to push myself and give my followers something unique, so I dropped six videos at once. I want everyone to understand that I take this seriously. Every assignment offers a chance to develop and push limits.
You frequently depict life in South Central LA in your music. What effects does your surroundings have on your sound?
South Central is my foundation and everything to me. My music is shaped by the experiences, the setbacks, and the successes. My songs are about hope and aspiration, but they also capture the realities of growing up here. I want others to realize that dreams may come true even in the most difficult situations.
You’ve been praised for your productivity, like releasing six music videos at once. How do you keep that level of creativity going?
It’s about keeping hungry and focused, man. I’m constantly writing and planning my next move. I want to create experiences rather than just music. It was my way of saying, “I’m here, and I’m not slowing down,” to release six videos at once. Setting a high standard for myself and then striving to surpass it is the goal.
Authenticity is more important to you than following viral trends. Why do you think that’s important?
I can’t compromise on being true to who I am. Being a flash in the pan is not why I’m here. I’m creating something substantial and long-lasting. Distractions abound in the industry, but I’m committed to honing my art and making connections with listeners who connect with my music. In the long run, authenticity is what makes you unique.
What’s next for Rolondo Rich?
More music, more visuals, and more storytelling. I’ve got new singles and videos in the pipeline. WE ON and The Hood Premiere are just the start of what’s coming. Additionally, I’m looking for methods to engage with fans more deeply—through live performances and possibly even joint ventures. 2025 will be a significant year.
