On October 20, the office of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama announced that he has canceled his planned trips to Sikkim and Karnataka in November and December. The decision was made on the advice of his doctors after he recently suffered from the flu.
Dalai Lama’s office stated, “His personal physicians have strongly advised that any travel will be taxing for His Holiness and more importantly, hamper his full recovery.” Therefore, the scheduled visit to Sikkim in November 2023 and the planned visit to South India (Bylakuppe and Hunsur) from the second half of November to mid-December 2023 have been canceled.
However, there is no change to his planned visit to Bodhgaya, which is set to begin in the second half of December 2023.
His office also mentioned that Dalai Lama has been advised to take rest due to a persistent cold, and introductory teachings scheduled for October 2 to 4, requested by Taiwanese devotees, will be given by Gaden Tri Rinpoche in his absence. The office requested understanding from everyone regarding this decision.
