Here’s another famous author’s interview from WorldAuthors.Org’ UNCUT WITH LUCIA series. It is a one-of-a-kind platform designed to highlight and promote the work of aspiring and established writers, authors, poets, and content creators who wish to reach out to their target audience.
Mark Ryall spent 22 years teaching economics and mathematics at Royal St. George’s College in Toronto and Hillfield Strathallan College in Hamilton. His debut novel “Age-Decoded,” is an excellent piece of work. Mark wrote “Age-Decoded” to inform himself and the rest of the world about the impending tsunami of CRISPR genetic engineering.
When the Human Genome Project was completed ten years ago, and CRISPR gene editing was just getting started, Mark realized that the world was about to undergo incredible transformations. Genetic engineering technology was about to be unleashed. He then decided to learn more about this technology and write a book on this subject.
After several New York publishers rejected “Age Decoded,” he decided to put the project on hold for a few years. After a brief hiatus, he resumed work on the project, as the topic is even more relevant today, with Jennifer Doudna receiving the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020, among other developments. He firmly believes that this technology will substantially change human nature and that it must be properly monitored and applied in order to be beneficial to humanity.
Besides writing and teaching, Mark enjoys playing golf and participates in triathlons. He also likes to paint historic buildings and sports portraits. All these are his ways to shift his mind to a completely different direction in order to allow for incubation.
He is currently a volunteer cross country coach at Hamilton’s Westdale Secondary School. His educational background includes a BSc, an MBA, and a Ph.D. (University of Toronto, Education).
